Chennai Gets its First High-Resolution Open MRI, A Patient- Centered Imaging Breakthrough Inaugurated by Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

In a major milestone Sunray scans a unit of Orthomed Hospital in association with Time Medical International Ventures (India) Private Limited proudly inaugurated Chennai’s first High-Resolution Open MRI system. The launch event was held at Orthomed Hospital, Royapettah and was formally inaugurated by Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

This marks a significant milestone in enhancing diagnostic care by seamlessly integrating advanced imaging technology with exceptional patient comfort. The new MRI system will empower Sunray Scans to deliver more accurate and comprehensive diagnostic services, benefiting patients across Chennai and neighbouring regions. The newly installed Open MRI system is designed to eliminate claustrophobia and reduce scan noise, all while delivering superior diagnostic clarity.

Orthomed is an Orthopaedic and Multispecialty hospital located at Royapettah, in the heart of Chennai. The founder and Managing Director Dr. A. Subair Khan, M.S. (Ortho), M.ch (Ortho), F.I.A.A, Fellow in Arthroscopy (India, Holland), is an Orthopaedic Surgeon trained in various aspects of Arthroscopy surgeries and sports medicine. He started the Orthomed Hospital in the year 2013, exclusive for Arthroscopy, sports medicines & joint care. Sunray Scan, a unit of Orthomed Hospital is a pioneering player in the healthcare industry, specializing in the refurbishment of medical diagnostic equipment.

Time Medical International Ventures (India) Private Limited, wholly owned subsidiary of the Company a global innovator in diagnostic imaging dedicated to making advanced, accessible, and affordable healthcare a reality for all has installed the first high resolution Open MRI in Chennai in Sunray Scans a unit of Orthomed Hospital

PICA Open MRI: Engineered for Comfort, Performance, and Operational Efficiency

The newly installed PICA Open MRI system represents the future of diagnostic imaging—combining a patient-first approach with cutting-edge technology and exceptional cost-efficiency. Its open architecture design eliminates the traditional tunnel structure, significantly reducing anxiety and discomfort, particularly for children, elderly patients, those with claustrophobia, and individuals with larger body types.

Backed by AI-assisted imaging algorithms and optimized RF technology, the PICA system delivers sharp, high-resolution images suitable for a wide range of clinical applications—including neurological and musculoskeletal scans—without compromising on quality.

In addition to its clinical advantages, the PICA stands out for its ultra-low power consumption, using
up to 40% less energy than conventional high-field MRI systems. This makes it an ideal solution for
healthcare providers aiming to reduce operational costs while maintaining diagnostic excellence.

Designed with sustainability in mind,
the PICA MRI offers:

•    Brain & Spine Imaging With Modern Software optimization
•    Lower electricity usage
•    No need for cryogen

•    Minimal infrastructure requirements

•  Simple room shielding

Traditional closed MRI systems, while effective, often come with challenges such as claustrophobia, noise-induced anxiety, and discomfort—especially for pediatric, elderly, obese, and anxious patients. The newly launched High-Resolution Open MRI addresses these concerns by offering:

•    Open Design: No enclosed tunnel, minimizing claustrophobia and discomfort
•    Low Noise Scanning: Quiet operation that makes the process far less intimidating
•    High-Resolution Imaging: Crystalclear diagnostic images ensuring clinical precision

Quotes

Dr. Subair Khan, Head of Orthomed Hospital

“This is Chennai’s first fully open MRI system, a significant leap from the traditional tunnel-type MRI machines. The advanced system offers high image clarity powered by cutting-edge High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) coil technology. It is especially beneficial for infants, elderly patients, individuals with obesity (up to 250 kg), and those suffering from claustrophobia, providing them with a much more comfortable and non-intimidating scanning experience. In addition to its open design, the system operates silently due to its fixed magnet configuration. Environmentally, it’s a major step forward—helium-free and radiation-free, making it a safe and eco-friendly solution for advanced diagnostic imaging.”
